The Advantages of 3T MR Imaging

MRI stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging. It uses a strong magnetic field and radiofrequency pulses to provide very clear and detailed diagnostic images of internal body organs and tissues. This non-invasive, painless diagnostic procedure allows doctors to diagnose a wide range of medical conditions.

The standard setting for a traditional MRI machine is the 1.5T (T = tesla, a unit of measurement used to describe the strength of a magnetic field.) A 1.5T MR system is approximately 30,000 times stronger than the Earth’s magnetic field, whereas a 3T MR system is twice that amount.  3T MR systems provide extremely clear and vivid images, which are ideal for brain, vascular, musculoskeletal, and small bone imaging.

The 3T MRI produces faster scans, which is beneficial for patients who experience restlessness or anxiety during MRIs. Additionally, 3T MRIs are quieter, which provides a more comfortable test environment. Neurological issues can be more easily identified through 3T imaging, and therefore more accurately diagnosed. Orthopedic scans of smaller body parts, such as small joints, bones, or tissue, which may be difficult to see on a 1.5T MRI, appear more clearly on a 3T image.

Imaging Specialists is proud to offer the latest in MRI technology and MRI safety with the 3T MRI system. The open 3T MRI enables our radiologists to accelerate early diagnosis and treatment, helping to improve a patient’s prognosis.

Our goal is to make scheduling an MRI a pleasant and stress-free experience. Patients can call Imaging Specialists at (843) 881-4020 for an appointment.  Additionally, our schedulers are available to assist patients with implants, stimulators, or prosthetic devices schedule the most appropriate MR scan for their needs.
