Computerized Tomography (CT), often referred to as a CAT scan, is a medical imaging exam that uses X-ray and computer equipment to produce thin section body images. It creates high-resolution images of the tissues and organs, providing a unique ability to visualize bones, muscle, internal organs, and blood vessels. It can often replace other diagnostic techniques such as exploratory surgery and other invasive procedures. This procedure is commonly used to evaluate causes of pain, shortness of breath, abdominal concerns, and bone and joint issues. At Imaging Specialists, our expert technicians and on-site radiologists specialize in providing patients with CT scans to determine the severity of their conditions. If you need a CT scan, contact our office at (843)881-4020 and schedule an appointment today.

Imaging Specialists has further solidified its commitment to high -quality imaging with the addition of GE Healthcare’s Optima CT660. This system is a 64-slice scanner that allows for fast, high-quality CT scans for patients young and old, large and small. It can be used across a broad spectrum of procedures including, brain, chest, abdominal, orthopedic, and vascular imaging. It is an excellent tool for getting the most specific information required to make a well-informed, accurate diagnosis and provide you with the best care.

CT scanning is a simple, safe, and painless procedure that takes only minutes to acquire. Sometimes a liquid called contrast is necessary to highlight specific structures. This is given to you in a drink, through an IV, or both. Tell your technologists if you have any allergies, especially to contrast.

  • One of our CT technologists will escort you into the CT department, where you’ll see a doughnut-shaped scanner.

  • The technologist will have you lie down on the padded table and ensure you’re comfortable.

  • You’ll be asked to lie very still during the scan and may be asked to hold your breath for a short time to minimize any body movement.

  • You might hear a humming noise during the scan, but you won’t feel anything unusual.

  • The technologist can monitor you during the entire exam through a window and will talk to you through an intercom.
