Two Words That Changed My Life

The two words that changed my life - Breast Cancer.

I never worried about breast cancer. No one in my family ever had it, so I was sure I was low-risk. I got annual mammograms at Imaging Specialists, and they were always clear. After gaining a few extra pounds in my late 40's, I decided to start jogging. I was surprised to notice that every time my right foot hit the ground, I felt a pain in my right breast. I wondered what it was, but I didn't worry about breast cancer because I was low risk and had a clear mammogram just six months earlier.

Finally, one day, when I got home from jogging, I checked my breasts while in the shower and found a small lump in my right breast. The following day I called my doctor, and she sent me right over to Imaging Specialists for a 3D mammogram. The staff in the Women's Imaging department was so kind and talked me through everything. The doctor came in and showed me what they found. We scheduled a biopsy, and life as I knew it quickly changed.

I was diagnosed with stage II breast cancer in July of 2012. I opted for aggressive treatment, and more than ten years later, there is no evidence of disease on my scans. I'm doing well and enjoying every day. I am genuinely so thankful for the team at Imaging Specialists for their quick diagnosis and the genuine compassion they showed me in such a life-changing experience.
